Man threatening self harm sparks launch of Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

A MAN threatening to jump from cliffs sparked the launch of Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat late on Monday night.

Humber coastguard requested the launch of the all weather lifeboat at 23.43 after they received a request for assistance from Northumbria Police who were dealing with an incident at Frenchman’s Bay, South Shields, where a man was threatening to jump from the cliff top.

The lifeboat arrived on scene five minutes after launching and stood by for around twenty minutes as a police negotiator talked the man to safety.  Once he was in custody the lifeboat returned to station.
