Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat launched to bridge jumper

A man standing on the wrong side of railings on Newcastle’s Tyne Bridge prompted a police request to Humber Coastguard for assistance, resulting in the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 21:28, which, with three volunteer crew,  started the 8 mile journey upriver.  Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and a North East Ambulance Hazardous Area Response Team were also tasked.

As the lifeboat passed St Peter’s Basin, just a mile from the Tyne Bridge, police reported that the casualty was safely in their custody and the lifeboat was stood down by Humber Coastguard, returning to station at 22:18.
