A FISHING vessel with four fishermen on board was towed to safety in the early hours today by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat after the boat suffered engine failure.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat at 03:52 after the skipper of the Fraserburgh-based 90-tonne, 16m El Shaddei called for assistance to get alongside North Shields fish quay.  His boat had been towed to just outside the Tyne piers by another fishing boat but he needed the help of the lifeboat to manoeuvre onto the quayside.

The lifeboat reached the El Shaddei just a few minutes after launching and the crew quickly attached a tow before taking the vessel to safety.
