Humber Coastguard received a 999 call from a concerned member of the public reporting that a jetski rider had come off his craft just south of the South Tyne pier and appeared to have suffered a head injury.
The coastguard immediately requested the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat and as the all weather lifeboat was not far away towing a fishing boat to safety it was decided to launch the small ‘Y’ class boat carried on board the lifeboat to get to the suspected casualty.
As the lifeboats approached the scene of the incident it was discovered that the jetski rider had gone ashore and his head injury was in fact a red hat. The incident was treated as a false alarm with good intent an the lifeboats stood down. Both boats returned to the lifeboat station where the ‘Y’ boat was moored for recovery onboard the all weather lifeboat once it returned.
Lifeboats: D-693 Mark Noble and Y-228
