Stranded fishermen rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat
The skipper of the 9.9m Eyemouth-registered Three Sisters radioed Humber Coastguard for assistance at 14:30.
Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was nearby carrying out a training exercise with an RAF rescue helicopter and was tasked to assist the fishing boat.
As the lifeboat travelled to the casualty vessel the skipper of another trawler in the vicinity radioed Humber Coastguard for help after his steering failed. As the boat was in no immediate danger it was decided to rescue the vessel after the Three Sisters had been towed to safety.
During the tow back to the Tyne Humber Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public reporting that a jetski rider had come off his craft just south of the south Tyne pier and had suffered a head injury. Tynemouth inshore lifeboat was paged by the coastguard an the small ‘Y’ class dinghy carried on board the all weather lifeboat was launched with two crew members and the first aid kit. The all weather lifeboat continued the tow, and put the Three Sisters onto North Shields Western Quay. Once the fishing boat was safely tied up the lifeboat then sped the 5 miles back out to sea to rescue the Sparkling Waters. Read about that service here.
