A BROKEN down boat prompeted the tasking of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat to tow it and its two occupants to safety.

At 18:45, just over an hour after previously being tasked to search for a missing person, the lifeboat crew were continuing a routine exercise when they were requested by Humber Coastguard to go to the assistance of a broken down motorboat up the river Tyne near Jarrow. Tyne pilot vessel Bewick was standing by the casualty boat as a precaution.

Arriving in the area a few minutes after being tasked the lifeboat crew located the boat and discovered that it had run out of fuel while the owner was showing the boat to a prospective buyer. The boat and the two men were towed to safety at Royal Quays marina, North Shields and the lifeboat then returned to station.
