Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station

Both Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats launched to boat in difficulty

A MOTORBOAT was towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat after the vessel was swamped by a wave over her stern that stopped it's engine and shorted out the battery, leaving her drifting a mile off the Tyne piers.

Both the all weather and inshore lifeboats were requested to launch at 11:51 by Humber Coastguard at as a precaution as it thought that the all weather lifeboat's salvage pump might be needed to help pump water out of the the casualty boat.

The lifeboats quickly located the Adonis, confirmed that she did not need pumping out, and the all weather lifeboat crew attached a tow rope and took the boat and her two occupants to safety at Corporation Quay, South Shields, before returning to station.
