Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station

Four on board powerboat taken to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

FOUR people on board a powerboat were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat this afternoon when their boat's engine failed leaving them stranded just inside the Tyne piers.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the all weather lifeboat at 14:04 after they received reports of the broken down vessel.

The lifeboat travelled just under a mile after launching and quickly took the casualty boat under tow, taking it in its occupants to safety at South Shields slipway where the lifeboat Coxswain carefully manoevred the boat close enough inshore to be recovered onto land.

The lifeboat then returned to station.
