Two people on board stranded powerboat rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

TWO people on board a powerboat were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat when the boat's engine failed, leaving it stranded a mile north of Tynemouth pier.

The lifeboat had been on a training exercise and at 19:30 the crew noticed the 5m powerboat stopped dead in the water and decided to investigate, discovering the boat had indeed broken down.

The boat was quickly taken under tow by the lifeboat and taken with the occupants, a local man and woman, to safety in the river Tyne at Royal Quays marina.
