Yacht rescued from rocks by Cullercoats and Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats

A YACHT with two occupants was rescued by Cullercoats RNLI lifeboat as the vessel sailed out of Cullercoats harbour but ended up suffering a damaged rudder after nearly running aground.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the two lifeboats at 15:57 after they received a report of the vessel in difficulty. Tynemouth Vounteer Life Brigade were also tasked to the scene.

The yacht's skipper was powerless to stop the vessel sustaining damage to its rudder, but Cullercoats lifeboat launched from inside the harbour and quickly took the vessel out to deeper water.

They were then met by Tynemouth RNLI's all weather lifeboat which took over the tow, taking the yacht to safety in the river Tyne at Royal Quays marina, North Shields.
