Jetskier rescued by Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat

A JETSKI rider was rescued this evening by Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat after his craft suffered engine failure in the lower Tyne harbour, not far from South Shields pier.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 20:17 after members of South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade observed the craft dead in the water while they were engaged in a major search for a possible missing person.

A passing yacht had stopped to offer the rider assistance and left as the lifeboat approached the broken down craft and its stranded rider.

The three volunteer crewmembers quickly attached a tow and took the jetski and the rider to safety a short distance away at South Shields slipway before returning to station at 20:35.
