A MOTORBOAT with four occupants was escorted into the Tyne by Tynemouth RNLI's all weather lifeboat after the vessel developed engine problems.

The skipper of a 7m powerboat called for assistance after his boat developed problems just ouside the Tyne piers and Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 13:00, just an hour before the Wedding Blessing of crew member Jill McCormick was due to take place on board the lifeboat.

The casualty vessel was quickly located and escorted into the Tyne. Once in the harbour the vessel's skipper felt he was able to proceed without further assistance and the lifeboat returned to station, arriving at 13:30.
