Jetskiers rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

TWO JETSKI riders were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat this afternoon after their craft broke down in the river Tyne at Jarrow.

Humber coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat at 16:43 and as there were a number of crew still present at the station preparing for Sunday's Tynemouth Lifeboat Day and having just returned from the previous service the lifeboat was launched immediately.

The volunteer crew of three sped upriver to where the jetski had been reported and located it at 16:56. The craft had suffered a fuel problem.

One rider was taken onboard the lifeboat and the other remained on board as a tow rope was attached to the craft. The riders and the jetski were then taken to safety at South Shields slipway, arriving at 17:30

The lifeboat then returned to station at 17:40
