A MAN was rescued this evening after he became cut off by the rising tide on a small beach at the south end of Marsden Bay, South Shields.

The man called for help and Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat at 21:12.

The lifeboat crew quickly made their way to the scene and picked the man up, putting him safely ashore on Marsden beach where he could make his way to the nearby road.

The lifeboat then returned to station.
