Sailing dinghy capsizes sparks Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat launchA CAPSIZED sailing dinghy prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI's inshore lifeboat this evening.

A concerned member of the public made an emergency phone call to Humber Coastguard at 18:53 to report that a small sailing dinghy had capsized in the lower harbour near the south Tyne pier and the occupants seemed to be having difficulty righting her.

The lifeboat crew sped the short distance to the casualty vessel but the dinghy sailors refused assistance and the vessel was towed back to Tynemouth sailing club by one of the club's safety boats as the lifeboat crew stood by to ensure all was well.

The lifeboat then returned to station.
