Floating log sparks rescue attempt by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat at 03:14am after an angler though he had seen a body float past him in the lower Tyne harbour.

After a search the lifeboat crew located a log that could have been mistaken for a person. They towed it back to where the angler was fishing and he confirmed that it was what he saw. The incident was put down as a false alarm with good intent.

The lifeboat then towed the log back to the lifeboat station to prevent any similar incidents and it will be safely disposed of – in one of the crew’s log burner!
