A JETSKI rider was rescued this evening after his personal watercraft's engine failed leaving him drifting just inside the Tyne piers.

The inshore lifeboat was tasked while on a routine training exercise by Humber Coastguard after they had recieved a number of 999 calls from concerned members of the public.

The lifeboat crew quickly located the drifting jetski and towed it and its rider to safety at South Shields slipway.
