Port of Tyne pilot launch towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

The Port of Tyne Pilot vessel Bewick and her two crew were towed to safety this afternoon by Tynemouth RNLI's all weather lifeboat after the vessel suffered engine failure twomiles north-east of the Tyne piers, just after putting a Pilot onboard the car carrier City of Oslo.

The pilot vessel's skipper radioed for assistance at 15:04, prompting an immediate request to launch the lifeboat, which reached the Bewick in just five minutes.

A tow rope was quickly attached and the vessel and her two crew taken to safety at the Tyne Dock pilot jetty.

The lifeboat then refuelled at Royal Quays marina and returned to station.
