Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat Spirit of Northumberland returns from towing trawler Green Pastures to safety. Photo: Adrian DonTHREE fishermen were towed to safety today by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat after their trawler’s engine failed leaving them stranded 7 miles south-east of the Tyne piers.

The skipper of the 17m 56 tonne trawler Green Pastures radioed Humber Coastguard for assistance at 12:25, reporting that his engine had failed, and that he had three crew on board.

Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was immediately requested to launch and reached the stranded trawler in 20 minutes.

A tow rope was quickly attached and the Green Pastures and her crew were towed to safety at Blyth harbour, arriving at 14:50.

Once the trawler was safely tied up on the quayside the lifeboat returned to station after refuelling, arriving at 15:30.
