Tynemouth all weather lifeboat was requested to launch at 12:34 when the skipper of an 11m trawler made a call to Humber Coastguard requesting assistance when his engine failed due to a fractured fuel line.

The trawler was approximately 7 miles south east of the Tyne piers and when the lifeboat arrived on scene the volunteer crew attempted to make a temporary repair to the fishing vessel but that proved unsuccessful so the lifeboat towed the vessel back to safety at North Shields Fish Quay, arriving at 15:30.
