ELEVEN anglers were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat volunteers this afternoon (Monday Oct 1st) when their angling boat suffered steering failure, leaving them stranded a mile out to sea from Tynemouth.

ELEVEN anglers were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat volunteers this afternoon (Monday Oct 1st) when their angling boat suffered steering failure, leaving them stranded a mile out to sea from Tynemouth.

The alarm was raised at 1.30pm when the skipper of the anglng boat Diablo called Humber Coastguard for assistance when his vessel lost steering.

Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat Spirit of Northumberland was requested to launch and reached the Diablo in under ten minutes.

The volunteer lifeboat crew attached a tow and took the stranded anglers to safety at Royal Quays marina, North Shields, before refuelling the lifeboat and returning to station.
