Anglers rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

FOUR anglers onboard a 23ft angling boat were rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat this afternoon (Friday August 10th) when their boat's engine failed, leaving them drifting helplessly between the Tyne piers, in the middle of the shipping lanes.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the all-weather lifeboat at 16:28 when the skipper of the angling boat called for help.

Launching just five minutes after the alarm was raised the lifeboat quickly travelled the mile to the casualty vessel where the volunteer crew assessed the situation and attached a tow rope, before taking the boat and its occupants to safety at Royal Quays Marina, North Shields.

The boat's engine failure was caused by a suspected fuel filter blockage.
