Eight anglers rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat

EIGHT anglers were rescued on Tuesday evening (17th July) after their boat's engine failed, leaving them stranded two miles out to sea from Cullercoats.

The skipper of the 28' angling boat Diablo called Humber Coastguard at 5.22pm for assistance after his engine overheated during a fishing trip. The Coastguard requested the immediate launch of Tynemouth all weather lifeboat which then reached the boat in just 6 minutes after launching.

A tow rope was attached to the casualty vessel by the volunteer lifeboat crew and it and the anglers were taken to safety at Royal Quays marina, North Shields.

After ensuring the boat was safely tied up the lifeboat refuelled and returned to station.

It's worth mentioning that the Diablo is well-maintained and the incident was one of those that does just occur with machinery.
