Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat launched to assist man on sinking boat

Tynemouth RNLI's inshore lifeboat was launched at 12:23pm after Humber Coastguard received an emergency call from a man whose boat was sinking from under him, 9 miles upriver on the river Tyne at Scotswood.

As the lifeboat and three volunteer crew passed Whitehill Point they were informed that the man had managed to swim ashore and was safely with police officers who were on the scene.

The lifeboat then returned to station.
