Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station boarding boat
The station boarding boat

A SMALL powerboat was towed to safety by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat at 3.07pm this afternoon after the station Coxswain noticed its occupant shouting for help as it passed the lifeboat station on the opposite side of the river Tyne.

The Coxswain and Station Mechanic used the station's boarding boat  to save time reaching the casualty and because the rescue would not be complicated. They quickly took the powerboat in tow, taking it to safety at South Shields slipway before returning to station. The boat had suffered steering failure.

Lifeboat: BB-501 formerly D-501 Forest Row Choir which served at Shoreham Harbour from 1996 – 2005 then as a relief lifeboat until 2007.
