Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat rescues angling boatTwo anglers were rescued this morning by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat after the engine on their boat failed, leaving them stranded a mile east of the Tyne piers.

The all weather lifeboat was requested by Humber Coastguard to launch at 08:40 after the skipper of the 5m angling boat called for assistance.  Port of Tyne pilot vessel Collingwood was close to the casualty boat and stood by as a precaution until the lifeboat arrived.

The volunteer lifeboat crew quickly attached a tow rope to the stranded boat and towed her and her two occupants to safety at Royal Quays marina, returning to station at 09:50.

Lifeboat: 17-20 Spirit of Northumberland.
