FOUR fishermen on board an angling boat were rescued after their boat's engine failed leaving them stranded three and a half miles north of the Tyne piers.

Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was requested to launch by Humber Coastguard at 18:15 after the skipper of the 10m angling boat Sapphire made a radio call for help.

Arriving at the stranded vessel fifteen minutes after launching the volunteer lifeboat crew attached a tow and took the Sapphire and her occupants to safety at CJ Marine, Howdon and after ensuring the vessel was safely tied up, returned to station, arrving at 8.30pm.
