Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat rescue

Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched at 1.40am after police requested assistance from Humber Coastguard following reports of a car partially submerged in the river Don, a small tributary of the Tyne that joins the river at Jarrow Slake.  Police were concerned that there might be people still in the vehicle but after searching the three lifeboat crew found no-one in or anywhere near it.  The lifeboat returned to station soon after and it is thought that the car may have been stolen and deliberately pushed into the river.
