06 January 2011: The inshore lifeboat was requested to launch at 23:56 after a person was seen falling into the river Tyne from the Tyne Bridge.

The lifeboat travelled eight miles upriver to assist in the search for the casualty who was witnessed falling from the Tyne Bridge and then drifting unconscious past the Copthorne Hotel.

Arriving at the scene just 20 minutes after launching the three volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew started searching upriver from the Copthorne Hotel towards Scotswood Bridge following the direction the incoming tide would carry the casualty.

After the lifeboat carried out a thorough search of the river, exhausting any possibility of locating the person the search was called off by Humber Coastguard and the lifeboat returned to station at 01:05.
